When diluted 1:7 with water in a backpack sprayer, PORT can be used to solve any biological odor including garbage dumpsters, organic spills, and animal decomposition.
Septic Tanks
Once per month, pour PORT down your drain or flush it down the toilet. For normal use in a 1,000 gallon septic tank, apply 1 quart of PORT on the initial application and 8oz each month thereafter. Apply 1 gallon of PORT if your tank is problematic.
*PORT can completely clear a clogged septic system drain field.
Vault Toilets
Add 2.5 gallons of PORT and 15 gallons of water per 1,000 gallon vault as needed. During increased traffic, add 1 gallon of PORT between cleanouts or as needed.
Optimally Port (diluted in water as specified below) should be added when the vault has been freshly pumped. The vault can then be left to fill to capacity without any additional product being needed. Additional water may be needed if solids begin to exceed the water line.
Vault Size | Dosage | Water to Add |
---|---|---|
3000 gallons | 7 gallons PORT | at least 49 gallons |
2000 gallons | 5 gallons PORT | at least 35 gallons |
1000 gallons | 2.5 gallons PORT | at least 17.5 gallons |
500 gallons | 1.25 gallons | at least 9 gallons |
Southland Organics’ PORT Holding Tank Treatment is a powerful liquid formula that provides rapid waste degradation and odor control for portable, vault and pit-type toilets as well as camper toilets.
PORT efficiently and effectively breaks down waste in your septic tank and clears bio-solids. In septic tanks with a drain field, PORT breaks down solids and opens up drain lines, potentially adding years between septic tank pumpings.
PORT is one of the best septic tank treatments out there because it makes use of beneficial bacteria to break down solid waste so that no harsh chemical additives are necessary.
The active beneficial bacteria cultures in PORT septic tank treatment are capable of breaking down human waste, toilet paper, household waste from the garbage disposal, feminine hygiene products and other solid waste. When used as regular maintenance for a septic tank, PORT can provide a healthy bacterial ecosystem that ensures your septic system works smoothly year-round.
Your septic tank works through a simple digestion process. Natural bacteria in human waste and other solids creates a sludge layer in your septic tank. Anaerobic septic systems, if left without a septic treatment, can be problematic because this sludge can build up and cause clogs. Aerobic bacteria in PORT break down the scum layer created by anaerobic bacteria, clearing out the septic tank of too many solids and ensuring the septic system is functioning properly.
PORT septic tank treatments is great for any size tank. It can work on smaller tanks too. You can just adjust the amount you pour down your drain to get the correct dose. Likewise, you can increase the dose for a larger septic tank size.
Digests Difficult Compounds
PORT septic tank treatments contains a synergistic blend of scientifically selected bacteria cultures (selectively adapted) to cope with difficult compounds and harmful chemicals present in wastewater effluent. Unlike other septic tank treatments’ bio-formulation, PORT contains live bacteria that will digest difficult and non-biodegradable compounds such as detergents, paper, oil, grease, hydrocarbons and phenols. PORT can dissolve solids and digest grease, and unlike most treatments is powered by active bacteria that clears your home plumbing lines.
No more DIY hydrogen peroxide solutions to toilet paper buildup. Some folks like to use organic solvents and inorganic acids as septic treatments, but PORT is a much more innovative, simple and safe solution. Our septic treatment product has active bacteria cultures that can reduce solids with just one monthly dose.
Amazing Odor Control
PORT septic tank treatment has a bacteria population that provides exceptional results controlling hydrogen sulfide and other mercaptan odors emitted from your septic system or portable toilet. Our tank treatment substrate is a new and novel, totally organic product that controls sulfide odors by blocking the pathways of sulfide-producing compounds. The product is also unique in that it contains micro- and macro-nutrients that provide the necessary bacteria to accelerate microbial activity, growth and performance in septic systems.
A Safe Septic System
Southland Organics’ PORT is all natural and organic, so it is very beneficial to the environment. This is why it's one of the best septic tank treatments! With no harmful chemicals, PORT is safe to enter the drain field around your septic tank. PORT will also not alter your soil structure or degrade soil content like some other products.
his field might double as your yard- an area where your kids play or pets run around. When you use PORT for your septic system, you don’t have to worry about any chemical additives that may be toxic to you, your family, your pets or wildlife.
Plus, the runoff from your septic tank can impact the local groundwater system. By keeping harsh chemicals out of your septic system treatment, you can promote the sustaining of a healthy ecosystem.

PORT can dissolve grease and eliminate odors in grease traps, wastewater lift stations, and RV dump stations. When diluted 1:7 with water in a backpack sprayer, it can be used to solve any biological odor including garbage dumpsters, organic spills and animal decomposition.
For septic tanks with a drain field, we recommend 8 ounces of PORT monthly in a 500-gallon septic tank for routine maintenance. You can just flush this septic tank treatment down your toilet bowl! For problematic systems, 1 gallon of PORT monthly in a 500-gallon tank will resolve most issues within a couple of applications. PORT can completely clear a clogged septic system drain field.
How PORT compares to other Septic Tank Treatments
Compared to other septic tank treatments, PORT has three main benefits: safety, bacteria use and versatility.
ven products that are typically considered the best septic tank treatments can contain chemicals that are not completely safe to enter your drain field or wastewater stream. After all, in most places, this water turns into your drinking water later!
ORT is a bacteria-powered septic tank treatment. Not only does this help make it safe, but it means that you can address the living organisms that clog your septic tank with more living organisms. The biological additives in PORT just make sure those harmful bacteria stay in check!
Plus, PORT isn’t just septic tank treatments. Since it is designed to work with waste effluent biology, it’s effective in any tank or wastewater disposal system. Its application rate can be adjusted for any tank size you’re working with.

Southland Organics waste management products leverage our three core features to eliminate odors and break down solids and sludge in tanks, vaults and pits.

The added beneficial microbes in PORT help decompose waste without harming the environment. This active, aerobic microbiology works against anaerobic bactria in tanks to clear solids and eliminate odors. Microbes amplify conventional programs by making your inputs work harder for longer.

Organic acids and top-quality, organic carbon work to break surface tension in tanks, thus eliminating biofilm buildup. Tanks, vaults and pits can function without getting clogged or developing strong odors.

Carbon has three main functions in terms of waste management. It binds hydrogen sulfide, which eliminates odors caused by decomposing organic matter. Adding carbon to a tank, vault, or pit increases the carbin to nitrogen ratio, which speeds up the composting process. Finally, carbon feeds the microorganisms that break down solids, helping them break down faster.
With these three secret ingredients, tanks, vaults and pits can function better, require fewer pumps and resist odor development- All without harming the environment!
Please no! The disinfectant will immediately kill the beneficial microbes in PORT and render them useless. Sure the organic acids might still work, but the product will have lost its effectiveness.
Southland Organics Down PORT is an acronym for Portable Outdoor Restroom Treatment. Not the most clever of names, but it did the trick when originally selling to the Federal Government back in 2009. We once had a GSA (General Services Administration) Contract and the name seemed to work with that particular audience. Today, PORT is widely used in outdoor restroom treatments from vault toilets, porta potties, and wilderness privies in addition to composting toilets, RVs, Boats, and lift stations.
